My name is Peter Silva. I am writing this letter to introduce myself to you and the center. I am a second generation Portuguese-American born in the United States of America. I am proud of my family’s heritage and the rich heritage and history of the Country of Portugal. I am a native of Florida born in Fort Lauderdale and have lived throughout the State. I am a husband of fourteen years to Jacqueline Silva, and father of two sons Jullien Conner Silva, and Marcos Estevu Silva. I have lived in Saint Augustine for over six years. I work as the Vice President of PNC/ National City Bank in Palm Coast, and used to work as the VP of SunTrust Bank in Flagler Beach for several years. I have been part of the community here for over six years, and part of the area that is part of the US Congressional District FL-07 since 1998.
On January 6, 2009, I announced my intentions to run as the Democratic candidate for United States Congressional district FL-07 in 2010. I have a record of accomplishment in negotiating deals and working with people from all backgrounds.
I as all Americans see that we are in trying times. We are living in history! The Country is going through an economic recession that seems to have dwarfed others in recent history. During the last couple of years, many have lost their homes, and jobs. We are seeing a record number of jobs lost overseas and growing deficits. We find the effects of this downturn in our communities with many of the services we depend on being trimmed more. We see the two sides in office fighting so much that at times we see little progress happening. I have many friends on both sides of the party lines. I believe that we personally have more in common than in difference. I know that many feel that things have not gotten any better over recent years. Therefore, I ask what do you see over, and over again from our legislators? My perspective is that government and industry takes reactive steps instead of proactive ones. We need more representation of our perspective at the federal level of our government. I vow to bring that voice of reason to the United States Congress for all of the citizens of FL district 7, and to bring a practical approach to solving the problems we face.
